Moon Pass project delayed

WALLACE — Completion of the stabilization project on Moon Pass has been delayed.
“I received word that the contractor working on Moon Pass has experienced some delays and will not be able to lift the weekday closures on June 30 as planned,” said Shoshone County Public Works director Jessica Stutzke.
No reasons were given for the delay, but crews have been busy on the slope stabilization project stemming from the April 2024 rockslide. This includes additional rock scaling, drilling, bolting and site cleanup.
In mid-May, Stutzke said the pass was clear of snow and navigable, but due to the work needed to be done, it would be closed Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., including a hard closure of the roadway between Bullion Creek and the top of Moon Pass.
Last Thursday, Stutzke said the project deadline had been extended to July 11, with possible interruptions through July 17.
Engineering firms GeoEngineers and HMH Engineering are collaborating on the project, which is being funded with state and federal money.
