'Distilled, bottled, and labeled in Idaho'

COEUR d’ALENE — Miles Jackson, the lead distiller at Rainfire Spirits in Worley, has always been straightforward with his mission, which is to make bourbon “exactly how bourbon is meant to taste.”

The bourbon Jackson and the Rainfire team created in partnership with The Coeur d’Alene Resort is certainly no exception.

Aged for two years in an oak barrel, Jackson describes the limited-edition spirit as having “very much a coffee flavor or aroma, with caramel flavors.”

“It’s everything you would want in a bourbon,” Jackson said.

The Coeur d’Alene Resort purchased one barrel from the local distillery and is now serving it by the glass at the Dockside Restaurant while supplies last.

The label itself pays homage to local and regional history as well as Rainfire Spirit’s origin story.

“There’s no other label like this on any product we have here,” said Resort president Bill Reagan. “It’s a great product, but it also really promotes the area.”

Reagan and Jackson, alongside Joshua Jackson and Dave Harris with Rainfire Spirits, raised a glass in celebration and sampled the bourbon at Dockside on Tuesday.

While liquor typically needs to be sent to Boise to be stickered before distribution, the Idaho State Liquor Division permitted the limited-edition batch to be stickered locally — meaning the bourbon never left Kootenai County.

“This was distilled, bottled, labeled, packaged and stayed in Idaho the entire time,” Reagan said.
