LEGION BASEBALL: Lums split with Lewis-Clark in tuneup for Wood Bat Classic

LEWISTON — Coeur d’Alene put the tying run on second base, but was unable to get any closer as the Lumbermen fell 3-1 to the Lewis-Clark Twins in the first game of a Class AA North Idaho League doubleheader at Harris Field on Tuesday.
Tanner Franklin had an RBI single to score Travis Usdrowski in the top of the sixth inning for Coeur d’Alene, which was limited to four hits — two each from Franklin and Andy Everson — in the opener.
In the nightcap, Usdrowski hit a two-run double to score Tyler Voorhees and Kyle Johnson, finishing with three RBIs as the Lumbermen beat the Twins 12-7 to get the split.
Both teams will advance to the state Class AA tournament July 24-28 in Nampa.
Aven Adams also had three RBIs and Jack Pierce had a two-run single in the sixth for Coeur d’Alene (16-15, which also split a doubleheader with Lewis-Clark on June 24 at Thorco Field in Coeur d’Alene.
Coeur d'Alene opens play in the Spokane/Coeur d'Alene Fourth of July Wood Bat Classic on Thursday, facing the Bitterroot Red Sox at 4:30 p.m. and the Changeup Baseball Archers at 7 at Thorco Field.
Lewis-Clark is 12-13.

SPIRIT LAKE — Tadhg Ellwood went 4 for 4 with four RBIs and three runs scored for the Mountaineers in a win over the Merchants in a Class A North Idaho League game at John Shaffer Field.
Ryker Brennan hit a two-run single to score Ellwood and Tanner Van Tassel in the first inning. Brennan finished with three RBIs and Jace Cooksey and Jake Larcher added two RBIs in the first game for Northern Lakes (15-3, 9-0 NIL).
“Tadhg hit the ball really well from start to finish today,” Northern Lakes coach Bryce Johnson said. “We moved him to the four-hole in our lineup because he’s been hitting so well and just had a heck of a day at the plate.
In the second game, Dane Perkl doubled twice and drove in four runs in a nonleague win over the Merchants. Ellwood and Eric Wylie had two RBIs each in the second game for Northern Lakes (16-3), which faces Prairie tonight at 6 at Brett James Memorial Field in Post Falls.
“It was a bit of a slugfest,” Johnson said. “Our pitching staff threw really well and Orofino can swing it. Being able to make them leave runners on base was big. It was fun to be a part of.”
Orofino is 5-13, 2-5.
