POLSON — Cody Haggard threw a complete game against the South Valley Screwballs and Cash Atkinson added 4 2-3 strong innings against the Lethbridge A Lakers as the Mission Valley Mariners took a pair of victories to open the Firecracker Tournament Friday. 

The Mariners defeated the Screwballs 4-1 before closing the day with a 6-2 decision over Lethbridge. 

Haggard allowed just three hits in his complete game showing, striking out 13 batters. 

At the plate, Cole Wadsworth went 2-for-4 scoring two runs.  

Dante Baltz picked up the lone RBI for the Screwballs. 

Atkinson opened game two on the mound and allowed two runs on four hits. He fanned two. 

Wadsworth added another two-hit performance, while Holden Emerson drove in a pair of runs. 

In other results at the tournament, Lethbridge defeated South Valley 9-7 and the Bitterroot Bucs bested the Kootenai Valley Rangers 10-0.
