LEGION BASEBALL: Prairie suffers two tough losses at Gonzaga event

SPOKANE — The Prairie Cardinals gave up seven runs in the final two innings and lost 9-5 to the Mavericks in their first game Sunday at the Gonzaga Showcase at Gonzaga University. 

In their second game, the Cardinals gave up four in the bottom of the seventh and were walked off 6-5 by Idaho Show Black. 

In the first game, Timothy Howard went 3 for 4 and drove in four runs for Prairie, which led 5-1 after three innings. Howard had an RBI single in the second inning and a three-run double in the fourth. 

Bryce Berger went 2 for 4 with a triple and a run scored for the Cardinals. 

In the second game, Howard’s RBI single in the top of the seventh put Prairie up 5-2. Howard, Berger and Alec Finn each had two hits for the Cardinals. 

Prairie (14-11-1) plays Prospect United today at 10:30 a.m. And the King County Mets at 2:30 p.m., both at Gonzaga.
