In Loving Memory of Mathew Christiansen
Oct. 9, 1980-July 3, 2025
With heavy hearts, equal parts sadness and disbelief that we announce the passing of our dear friend Mathew Gary Christiansen, who left us far too soon at the age of 44.
He is survived by his Uncle Clark Christiansen, Aunt Sue Hookano of Nezperce, Idaho and a daughter, Illiana Wilson of Seattle.
Mathew grew up in Kalispell, golfing with his father, skiing on Big Mountain, taking the boat out, blasting music that didn’t quite match the scenery and jet skiing on Flathead Lake where the family enjoyed summers at their lake place on Angel Point for many years. After graduating high school at Flathead High in 2000 Matt moved to Seattle to attend the Seattle Culinary Academy where he became a proud chef in Seattle, working at places like the Marriott and Zig Zag Cafe.
He was all jokes, Red Bulls, terrible Spanish and Seahawks banter—at this time. If you were lucky enough to know him, you know he cared deeply about his friends and family connections. Matt’s favorite vacationing place was in Hawaii where he would visit more family and absorb the ever-needed sunshine he lacked in the PNW.
He adored his friends like family, and he never missed a chance to roast you lovingly, hand you a cold drink, call at weird hours or remind you when the Price is Right or Judge Judy started. He leaves behind his crew of close and devastated friends, family, and a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and lake days. We’ll miss his signature smirk, his perfectly timed unrelated one-liners.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), an organization that supports living a life full of clarity, laughter, and second chances.
So, here's to you Matty "Mafia," may fairways and calm waters finally bring you peace. You will be missed terribly but not forgotten.
