Meet the Daily Bee's next city and education reporter

Hello, I am Jack Freeman, the new city and education reporter for the Bonner County Daily Bee.
I was born and raised in California, primarily in the Bay Area, where I attended Woodside High School. I’ve always been a massive sports fan, but unfortunately, the genetic lottery made me 5-foot-6 and so in search of other ways to continue my passion I turned to writing. At Woodside, I found journalism to be my next passion, connecting me to the sports I loved with in-depth stories about the people who play them. This passion carried me to my home state’s capital to attend Sacramento State University and pursue my bachelor’s in journalism.
During my time as a Hornet, I followed the team’s football team and worked my way up the chain at the student newspaper until I was editor-in-chief for my last two semesters. While my time at Woodside sparked my passion for journalism, the four years at Sacramento State turned that passion into a blazing wildfire. I saw firsthand how powerful local news could be in bringing people together and making the world a better place. There I became keenly interested in supporting and contributing to local journalism to tell stories that connect with people.
That’s why after graduating with my bachelor's in journalism in May and finding the listing for a passionate city reporter in Bonner County, I jumped on the opportunity. Luckily, the folks here at the Daily Bee have given me a chance to introduce myself to the world of local journalism and the wonderful community here. It was also the perfect chance to leave San Francisco 49er country and finally live close to fellow Seattle Seahawk fans.
When I’m not reporting for the Daily Bee, you can find me riding my bike around town with my wife or watching my favorite sports. I also enjoy hiking and hope to take full advantage of Bonner County’s abundant wilderness.
I’m already stunned by the gorgeous views of the county and can’t wait to explore more of what Bonner County has to offer. I look forward to reporting on the issues that matter and being a voice for the voiceless in this community.
