Big Sky commissioner Wistrcill receives contract extension
FARMINGTON, Utah — Big Sky Conference commissioner Tom Wistrcill has signed a five-year contract extension through 2030, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Wistrcill has been Big Sky commissioner since December 2018.
“On behalf of my fellow presidents, we are pleased that Tom has committed to our conference for the foreseeable future, thus allowing the Big Sky to continue progressing along the ascending trajectory on which he has skillfully led us for the past six-plus years,” said C. Scott Green, president of the University of Idaho and current chair of the Big Sky Presidents’ Council. “His keen grasp of the myriad issues around college sports, their potential impact on our membership, and how to navigate this unprecedented space has us positioned to not just survive but even thrive in today’s modernized NCAA.”
Wistrcill has served on the NCAA Men’s Basketball Committee since 2022 and on the Collegiate Football Officiating board, which is run by the College Football Playoff and includes just two FCS commissioners alongside the leaders of each of the 10 FBS conferences, since 2021. Last month, his colleagues appointed him as the vice president of the Collegiate Commissioners Association, the organization for all 32 NCAA Division I commissioners.
“I am honored to continue leading the Big Sky and am thankful for the leadership of and support from our dedicated Presidents’ Council,” Wistrcill said. “While we are proud of our standing as the premier FCS conference, rest assured that we are far from content and will continue to further elevate the experience of our student-athletes, coaches, and fans. The best days for the Big Sky are still ahead.”
