POST FALLS — The Post Falls parade Saturday will begin with a moment of solemnity.

Riderless horses and legacy fire equipment representing the firefighters shot during an ambush attack on Canfield Mountain will proceed from North Frederick Street along Seltice Way to Idaho Road.

“It's time for us to pause to recognize those firefighters and their families. They'll lead the parade to recognize the fallen and injured firefighters,” parade organizer Scot Haug said.

Firefighter turnouts worn by the two fallen firefighters will also be part of the procession.

Haug confirmed Wednesday that similar to the silent tribute that was a part of Coeur d’Alene’s Fourth of July parade, the Post Falls parade will open honoring the service and lives of John Morrison,  Frank Harwood and Dave Tysdal, who remains hospitalized from his injuries after being wounded in the attack.

“The whole community is grieving what happened and we’re going to honor the fallen firefighters and injured firefighter,” Haug said. “As tragic as it is, what happened in our community, it brings people out to support one another.”

The next entry will be the giant American flag carried by the Post Falls High School football team.

Mere weeks ago, Val Wilcox had put a call out to the community for parade entries, worried that it may be a smaller parade than previous years, but a late flood of submissions came in.

“We have everything under the sun,” Wilcox said.

The Post Falls Community Ambassadors reported there are at least 80 entries, the most in over a decade.

“It just warms my heart,” Haug said. “We're all volunteers so we're all doing our part to make this successful.”

Some of the performances during the parade include dance teams and the North Idaho Sparklers.

The parade begins at 10 a.m. and is part of the Post Falls Festival running Friday to Sunday. Live music, food trucks, a movie in the park, kids activities and a beer garden at Q'emiln Park are featured throughout the weekend along with vendors and handmade crafts.

The Citylink North Shuttle will be available and parking will be free.
