LEGION BASEBALL: Lums win, lock up top seed from Area A to state

COEUR d’ALENE — Coeur d’Alene starter Kyle Johnson struck out six over five innings for the Lumbermen, who beat the Lewis-Clark Twins 5-2 to clinch the top seed in Area A to the state class AA tournament July 23-28 in Nampa. 

Coeur d’Alene and Lewis-Clark split doubleheaders during the regular season, with Wednesday’s game to determine seeding as both teams advance to state. 

Mark Holecek went 3 for 3 with an RBI for Coeur d’Alene. Wyatt Riske pitched two innings of scoreless relief to close out the win. 

Lewis-Clark is 13-17. 

Coeur d’Alene (19-17) hosts the Missoula Mavericks today in a single game at noon at Thorco Field.
