Tickets are on sale to see Swedish folk singer-songwriter Kristian Matsson perform as The Tallest Man on Earth on Oct. 25 at the Wachholz College Center.
Since launching a solo career in 2006, Matsson has captivated audiences worldwide with his intimate performances, emotional storytelling and charismatic stage presence, touring around the world as The Tallest Man on Earth.
Matsson has released seven full-length albums and four EPs, recording and producing them at home. After 2015's “Dark Bird Is Home,” and his self-released “I Love You, It’s a Fever Dream,” in 2019, Matsson returned in 2022 with the intricate cover album, “Too Late for Edelweiss.” In 2023, he unveiled his latest album, “Henry St.,” marking the first time he recorded with a full band.
“For most of my career, I’ve been a DIY artist, driven by the feeling that I didn’t know what I was doing, so I just handled everything myself,” Matsson said in his bio at thetallestmanonearth.com, explaining that when it came to producing “Henry St.” he “craved the creative spark that comes from collaboration and invited his friends to join him in the studio.”
Critics often draw comparisons between The Tallest Man on Earth and Bob Dylan, citing similarities in both songwriting and vocal style, according to a press release. Matsson acknowledged Dylan's influence, listening to him since he was 15. Fascinated by Dylan's covers, he delved into their origins and was introduced to American folk artists like Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie. However, Matsson is quick to distance himself from being part of any specific tradition.
“I just want to do what feels natural to me. This is how I play, and this is how I write songs," he said.
Ticket prices are $33, $38.50 and $48.40, which includes service fees. Tickets may be purchased at wccmt.org or at the ticket office by visiting 795 Grandview Dr. in Kalispell or calling 756-1400.
