Whitefish Theatre Company is offering one-day workshops for people wanting to improve their audition skills.

The audition workshop will be held on two dates, from noon to 3 p.m. July 12 and July 13 at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. The class, open to people of college-age and up. The cost is $75 per person.

Instructor Jake Carr, director of company productions “Silent Sky” and “Holmes for the Holidays" and “Church and State,” will offer guidance from years of auditioning and casting experience to help sharpen students' natural talents. Participants will work on connecting with a scene partner while reading a script, making strong character choices and staying flexible when a director asks an individual to make changes to their performance.

Whether a seasoned actor, or new to the process, “Jake loves using his extensive experience on both sides of the casting table to help demystify the intimidating audition process.”

Carr holds bachelor's degrees in theater and psychology from Miami University of Ohio. He worked as a theater and commercial actor in Chicago, performing everything from sketch comedy to gritty contemporary dramas, educational theater and puppetry. He trained at Black Box Acting's Academy Conservatory program, later becoming a Black Box instructor and private audition coach.
