LEGION BASEBALL: Lakers’ offense unstoppable in sweep of 49ers

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | July 11, 2025 1:00 AM

CHEWELAH — Cy Marshall went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, a single and three runs scored as the Lakers used an 11-run fifth frame rally to beat the 49ers of Chewelah in the opener of a Spokane American Legion "A" doubleheader Wednesday at Chewelah High.
North Idaho took control early with Priest River High rising sophomore Karsen Garvin delivering a two-out RBI single in the third frame to push the lead to 4-0. In the fourth, Clark Fork's Tayden Cramer produced an RBI bunt single to keep the Lakers' lead at four runs, 5-1. After giving up six runs in the bottom half of the inning, North Idaho needed to answer in the fifth — and they did just that with 11 runs.
Garvin and Marshall smacked RBI doubles, Cody Gutierrez had an RBI single, and Drake Burk had two RBI singles in what was the most runs scored by North Idaho an inning this year. Garvin, Burk, Noah Langlois and Tayden Cramer all had two hits apiece for the Lakers in the winning effort.
On the mound, Marshall got the start and allowed just two earned runs and struck out one batter over 3.2 innings. Clark Fork's Arrow Cramer was credited with the win, striking out two batters over 1.1 innings of work.

* There was a scoring dispute in this contest, with both teams recording a score of 12-11 in their favor. The game was ultimately called, expedited by smoke from the Hope Fire, which is near Northport, Wash. and has grown to over 6,500 acres. Even though the 49ers are in the Spokane ALB A league, this game specifically did not count towards the league standings, regardless of outcome.*
CHEWELAH — Cody Gutierrez and Asher Cramer both tallied two singles and two runs scored as the Lakers used an 8-run third inning and fended off a late rally to complete a sweep of the 49ers in the nightcap of a Spokane American Legion "A" doubleheader Wednesday at Chewelah High.
Emery Loosier recorded an RBI single to finish off a three-run first inning while Gutierrez hit an RBI single of his own in the second to extend the lead to 4-2. Asher Cramer, Drake Burk and Noah Langlois, who had two hits in the contest, all had RBI singles during the Lakers' eight-run third frame — Langlois' being a two-run single that pushed the lead to 10-3, with Burk's single following, as North Idaho eventually led 12-3 before the 49ers were able to record three outs.
In his start on the mound, Tayden Cramer struck out one batter over 2.2 innings. Erik Hansen followed, striking out two batters over 2.2 innings in relief.
North Idaho (9-12-1) will face Almira/Coulee-Hartline of Coulee City, Wash. this Saturday at War Memorial Field for an important league doubleheader that could shake up the standings. According to the official Spokane ALB A Standings, the Lakers, which are 6-5 in league games that counted, currently sit in fourth and are 0.5 games ahead of ACH, which is 6-6.
