LEGION BASEBALL: Lums fall to Missoula; Prairie 'A' sweeps

COEUR d’ALENE — The Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen “AA” team led after the first inning, but it was all Missoula after that as the Mavericks won 11-4 on Thursday afternoon at Thorco Field. 

After Missoula scored three runs in the top of the first, Coeur d’Alene (20-18) answered with four in the bottom of the inning.  

Andy Everson led off with a single, and moved up to third on a double by Mark Holecek, who finished 3 for 4. 

One out later, Everson scored on an error, Aven Adams singled in Holecek, Cash Lund singled in Vinny Lapresta, and Adams scored on a steal of home for a 4-3 lead. 

Coeur d’Alene returns to action Monday at home vs. the Spokane Expos Williamson 18U at 6 p.m. at Thorco Field.

Northern Lakes drops opener at tourney 

MISSOULA, Mont. — The Northern Lakes Mountaineers were held to four hits in a 7-2 loss to the Bitterroot Bucs in their first game at the Missoula Mavericks Invitational on Thursday. 

Ethan Pecor hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning for Northern Lakes (23-5), and Jace Taylor added an RBI single in the seventh. 

Today, Northern Lakes plays the Tri-County Cardinals at 11:45 a.m. PDT, and the Bitterroot Red Sox at 2:30 p.m., as round-robin play continues.

POST FALLS — The Cardinals and Cubs split a class A North Idaho League doubleheader at Brett James Memorial Field. 

In the first game, Isaiah Kearney reached on an error and scored on a wild pitch to cap a three-run sixth inning that pulled the Prairie Cardinals within a run in a 6-5 loss. 

Gavin Wienker had two hits for Prairie. 

In the second game, Prairie had just three hits, but took advantage of 11 walks and five hit-by-pitches in a 7-3 victory. 

James Morast struck out 10 in a complete game and Alec Finn drove in a pair of runs for the Cardinals (17-12-1, 8-3 NIL), who broke a tie with four runs in the sixth.  

Prairie wraps up the regular season Monday at home vs. St. Maries at 6 p.m. at Brett James Memorial Field.
