LEGION BASEBALL: Northern Lakes wins Missoula tourney

The Northern Lakes Mountaineers Class A American Legion baseball team won the Missoula Mavericks Invitational on Sunday, beating the Bitterroot Bucs 16-11 in the championship game. MISSOULA, Mont. — Tadhg Ellwood went 4 for 5 with a double, triple and four RBIs as the Northern Lakes Mountaineers “A” team avenged its only tourney loss, beating the Bitterroot Bucs 16-11 in the championship game of the Missoula Mavericks Invitational on Sunday.
Ellwood had a two-run single in a five-run second inning for Northern Lakes, an RBI single in a five-run third and a run-scoring triple in the fifth.
Jake Larcher went 2 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs scored in the title game for the Mountaineers, including a two-run single in the sixth.
Griffin Tamagni drove in three runs, two on a third-inning single and scored three times.
Earlier Sunday, Northern Lakes finished 4-1 in round-robin play with a 12-1 victory over the host Missoula Mavericks.
In the first game, Ryker Brennan hit a two-run double and Jake Larcher hit a two-run single in a seven-run seventh inning for Northern Lakes. Larcher finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, and Brennan and Jace Taylor each were 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs.
Brennan struck out three, walked one, and allowed one run in 6.1 innings.
Next up for Northern Lakes (26-5) is the Class A Area A (district) tournament at Thorco Field in Coeur d’Alene, beginning Thursday.
