Council okays applications for upcoming events

The Ronan City Council blazed through their meeting on July 9.
Besides routine housekeeping tasks, the council unanimously approved:
• An application for an open container permit for the Ronan Co-op Brewery and street closure on 4th Ave. from Main Street to Round Butte Road, July 18, for the “Gears and Beers Car Show” from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
• Calvin Hardy’s application for an open container permit for a 40-year Ronan High class reunion at the pavilion in the city park on Aug. 1 from 4 p.m.-9 p.m.
• Travis White/the Pheasant’s application for street closure of Main Street in front of the Pheasant and the 2nd Chance Saloon for street dances, from 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, through 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 3. The council also approved open-container permits for the same period of time, concluding after the Pioneer Days parade on Aug. 3.
The next council meeting begins at 6 p.m. July 23 at Ronan City Hall.

Shoppers turn out for Shop Small Saturday
With Thanksgiving dinner gobbled, pie eaten for breakfast, and a day of leftovers behind them, people were ready to get out of the house Saturday and shop. After all, only 27 days remained until Christmas.
“Great communities are built on volunteers”
Cars and trucks lined Main Street in Polson to collect Thanksgiving dinners from the Elks Club last Thursday. The drive-through dinner, commandeered by field marshal Tracy Plaiss, served 1,800 Thanksgiving dinners, made from scratch. A few miles south, the Ronan Community Thanksgiving dinner filled a room in the Boys and Girls Club with tables of visiting people and the aromas of roasting turkey and savory dressing.
