Cox's 1975 Bonners football team inducted into inaugural Badger Athletic Hall of Fame
The late Doug Cox, who went on to become an assistant football coach at Coeur d'Alene and Lake City high schools, was head coach of the 1975 Bonners Ferry High football team that was inducted into the Badger Athletic Hall of Fame last November.
The '75 Badgers finished 9-0-1, beating Grangeville 21-13 for the A-2 North Idaho championship at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow. That was before the days of IHSAA state playoffs. The Badgers were ranked No. 1 in A-2 in the final media poll, earning them the title of mythical state champions in their division.
Ron Smith, youth coach and longtime Badger booster; Bill Hayden, longtime Badger track and field and football coach; Janis Tucker, former Bonners Ferry athlete and longtime Badger volleyball coach; and Tim Mercer, a multisport Badger athletic who died in a car accident before his senior year, were also part of the 2024 class.
The 2025 class will be announced soon, and inducted Nov. 15 at the Boundary County Fairgrounds.
