Six U.S. Border Patrol agents are canvassing the roads and properties near Pleasant Valley Road off U.S. 95 in search of two individuals who fled law enforcement after an early-morning traffic stop.
One male was apprehended by agents at the scene, while the other two fled on foot from a passenger vehicle, which has since been towed, according to an officer on scene.
According to a driver who witnessed the traffic stop, the vehicle is a red minivan. The suspects are reportedly wearing dark shirts and blue jeans.
Border Patrol agents have been searching for the suspects on dirt bikes since around 6 a.m., the officer said.
Three of the agents had traveled from the Spokane, Wash., office to participate in a training event in Boundary County but were diverted to assist with the manhunt.
Deputies from the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office and an officer with the Bonners Ferry Police Department assisted during the initial stop, according to a BCSO press release and Bonners Ferry Police Chief Willie Cowell.
"It is suspected these individuals may be in the country unlawfully," states the BCSO press release.
All available local law enforcement personnel were deployed in the search, but the suspects remain at large as of Thursday afternoon.
The Boundary County Sheriff’s Office is urging residents and visitors to remain vigilant. Anyone who observes suspicious activity in the area of Pleasant Valley Loop and Highway 95 is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 208-267-3151.
