LEGION BASEBALL: Northern Lakes to face Prairie in semifinal of Class A Area A tourney

COEUR d’ALENE — Jake Larcher hit a two-run single to highlight a six-run second inning, and the Northern Lakes Mountaineers went on to beat the Lewis-Clark Cubs 11-2 in the second round of the Class A Area A (district) tournament Friday at Thorco Field. 

Ryker Brennan and Eric Wylie each went 3 for 4 with two runs scored for Northern Lakes, and Tadhg Ellwood scattered four hits in a complete game, striking out five and walking two. 

Northern Lakes (30-5) plays the Prairie Cardinals today at 10 a.m. in the semifinal game, with the winner advancing to the championship game Sunday at 10 a.m. 

Meanwhile, the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen stayed alive in the losers bracket, beating the St. Maries Savages 12-2 and the Moscow Blue Devils 14-11. 

Coeur d’Alene (17-18-2) will face Lewis-Clark today at 1 p.m. in a loser-out game, with the winner playing the Prairie-Northern Lakes loser at 4. 

Against St. Maries, Justin Fagan went 4 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored for Coeur d’Alene. Tristen Martin went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. 

Milo Marsh had two of St. Maries’ three hits. 

Against Moscow, Jackson Davenport went 4 for 5 and scored three runs for Coeur d’Alene.

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Dylan Cook’s two-run single highlighted a six-run second inning as the Lumbermen won their first game at the Top Tier Sports Pacific Prospect Series at Lincoln Park. 

Tyler Voorhees and Kyle Johnson each had RBI singles in the inning, and Travis Usdrowski doubled in a run. 

Johnson and Usdrowski each finished with two RBIs, and Voorhees was 2 for 4 with an RBI and three runs scored. 

Tanner Franklin scattered three hits in a five-inning complete game. 

Coeur d’Alene (21-18) is scheduled to play the Merchants 18U Elite at 2 p.m. today, and the TC Spartans 18U tonight at 7.
