Steven Russel Capello, age 45, passed July 12, 2025, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, after a long battle with esophageal cancer. Steven was born May 6, 1980, to Art and Sue (Morbeck) Capello in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and lived, in his words, “an ideal North Idaho childhood.”

Steven always loved the outdoors and won many trophies and ribbons for archery and horse-riding events in his childhood. He studied at both NIC and SCC, gaining welding and electrical knowledge that served him well in his adult years repairing and riding his beloved motorcycles. More than anything, Steven enjoyed just spending time with his family and friends, and his faithful furry companions. He said many times the nightly games of cards and dice played at the Capello kitchen table were “as good as life gets.” The birth of his first grandson “made life complete.”

He is survived by his wife, Charity (Rudolph) Capello; his daughter, Ashley Kay Capello-Green; his grandson, Felix Arthur Capello; his parents, Sue and Art Capello; his sister and brother-in-law, Angela and Russell Johnson and their son, Michael Johnson, as well as other numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, including the Jeff and Judy Morbeck families; his uncle, Richard Capello; and his most beloved friend and constant companion, Jillybean the Labrador.

A celebration of Steven’s life will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 4 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home, at 744 N. Fourth St. in Coeur d’Alene, followed by a celebration at the Ponderosa Springs Golf Course clubhouse (Capone’s on The Green). All who knew and loved him in any capacity are invited and welcomed.

Arrangements are provided by Yates Funeral Home. Online registry and condolences may be found at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
