LITTLE LEAGUE: Coeur d'Alene 11U boys walk off with state title

11U: Max Spencer singled in ghost runner Jack Elgee from third base in the eighth inning as Coeur d’Alene defeated West Valley of Eagle, Star and Middleton 5-4 in the deciding game of the best-of-3 series for the state 11U championship Saturday.
Earlier in the day, West Valley won 5-2 to square the series. Coeur d’Alene won Game 1 3-2 on Friday night, also in walk-off fashion.
In the third game, Westin Holmquist struck out 10 over 5.1 innings for Coeur d’Alene. Quinton Wilburn was 2 for 2 with two RBIs, and Will Radobenko, who had the game-winning two-run double on Friday, was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
The state tournament is the end of the road in the 11U division.
12U (Majors): After throwing a no-hitter to force a deciding game, Post Falls came up just short of earning a trip to San Bernardino, Calif., falling 5-4 in Game 3 to Southwest Ada of Boise, Meridian and Kuna on Saturday.
Earlier Saturday, Evan Ruth and Fletcher Tandy combined on a no-hitter for Post Falls in a 2-0 win, striking out seven. Ethan Squires hit a two-run homer in the first inning for the game’s only runs.
Southwest Ada, which advances to the Northwest Regional, won 3-1 in Game 1 on Friday night.
10U: Coeur d’Alene won Game 2 22-16 on Saturday to force a deciding game later that day, but West Valley won that one 3-2 to capture the state title.
West Valley won 5-2 in Game 1 on Friday night.
