Robert Henry Straley Jr., 74, of Elmira, Idaho, passed away peacefully July 2, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born to Robert Henry Straley Sr. and Vera Elizabeth (Gallion) Straley, Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer and Vietnam veteran, working as a hull technician and as a drug and alcohol counselor. A skilled craftsman, he owned his own welding business and spent his later years helping build custom homes across northern Idaho.

Robert loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He especially cherished time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing his knowledge, stories, passions, and his sense of humor. A proud patriot, he held strong conservative values and a deep love for both his country and his home state of Idaho.

He is survived by his children: Ron Straley (Tysi), Shelley Britzius (Jason), Wayne Straley (Anna Lynn), Beau Straley, Audra Razo (Tommy); his brothers, Ron Straley (Karleen) and Earl Straley; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara Craythorn.

Robert’s legacy lives on in the hands he held, the lives he guided, and the values he stood for. His presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

A memorial service to honor Robert’s life will be held Sept. 6, 2025, at the Sandpoint Community Hall, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
