Rose Thompson, 83
Bonner County Daily Bee | UPDATED 5 months AGO
Rose Marie was born to Chauncy and Rose Di Laura and raised in Grosse Pointe, Mich., graduating from St. Paul’s Catholic High School in 1960. From there she attended Immaculate Jr. College in Washington, D.C., finishing her degree as a medical technologist at The University of Detroit Mercy College. Rose Marie always spoke fondly of her high school and college friends.
No doubt much to her parents’ surprise, Rose Marie and two other adventurous med tech friends left the Midwest and moved to San Francisco to pursue all that city had to offer, building a lifetime of great memories.
While living in the San Francisco area, Rose Marie met and fell in love with a blonde civil engineer from North Idaho named Jim Thompson. They were married Sept. 9, 1972. These two joined forces for some great adventures, including traveling to Samoa, several cruises, and ski trips.
Rose Marie loved a good book, doing needle work, and visiting with friends and family in their San Rafael neighborhood. Upon their retirement, they moved to Jim’s family ranch in Sandpoint, Idaho, where this Detroit girl learned the joys of life in the country with mules, wildlife, and hay crews.
Rose Marie is survived by her beloved husband, James Robin Thompson; brother, Chauncy Joseph Di Laura Jr. (Emily); her brothers and sisters-in-law, numerous cousins, nieces, grandnieces, nephews, and grandnephews, who all adored her.
One grandnephew remembered, “Rose Marie always made me laugh and lit up a room.” Her many friends would agree. That infectious laugh will long echo in the ears of those of us who shared her life.
A private celebration of Rose Marie’s life was held July 19, 2025.
