Grant County – Grant County Commissioners announced Tuesday they have selected Brandon Guernsey as the Grant County Prosecuting Attorney, succeeding Kevin McCrae. Guernsey will be appointed effective Aug. 4, 2025.
“(Brandon Guernsey) is the selection we made after the interview process and after recommendations, meeting with people, and kind of doing our due diligence on trying to select the new prosecuting attorney,” said Grant County Commissioner Rob Jones.
The Prosecuting Attorney Applicant interviews concluded Monday after the BOCC met with three candidates that the Republican party had put forward, said Jones. The commissioners presented each candidate with a series of 14 questions.
The commissioners also held meetings with people around the county about what they thought about the candidates, he said. After this, they determined that Guernsey would be the best fit.
“For me, he’s honest, he seems pretty positive,” said Jones. “He was fully committed to Grant County.”
According to a press release sent by the BOCC, Brandon has been serving in the District Attorney’s Office, Augusta Judicial Circuit in Augusta, Ga., as an Assistant District Attorney. Prior to that, he served as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Grant County from 2017 until leaving the position in February of this year.
Jones said when the position opened up, Guernsey committed to moving back in order to start his 30-day period as a resident of the county.
“Meeting with him, he just showed some moments of down-to-earth, honest evaluation of the position and that for me stood out,” he said.
He has experience handling complex narcotics cases with the Interagency Narcotics Enforcement Team, along with violent crimes, including gang-related and firearm offenses, according to the BOCC’s press release.
“Just excited for a new prosecuting attorney and moving forward with him,” said Jones. “We’re going to support him and hopefully he supports us and we can all work together and start getting some progress on our caseloads.”
The Prosecuting Attorney Applicant Interviews as well as the announcement of the selection were recorded and will be posted to the BOCC’s official YouTube page: Grant County, Wash.: BOCC.
