TRAVEL BASEBALL: Holman walks-off first game, Sasquatch 16U splits with River City

by MAX OSWALD
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | July 24, 2025 1:00 AM

Sandpoint 10, River City 9

SANDPOINT — Trailing 9-8 in the bottom of the seventh inning with one out and the bases loaded, Sandpoint High rising sophomore Daniel Holman drove the first pitch he saw to center field for a two-run single and the Sasquatch scored five runs in the final frame to walk off the River City Premier of Post Falls in the opener of a doubleheader Tuesday at Big Pine Field.

Conner Brown also played an instrumental role in the victory. The Sandpoint High rising sophomore, on a 1-2 count, smacked the game's only extra-base hit a couple of at-bats earlier — an RBI double to right field that scored two runs and cut the deficit to one. Sandpoint High rising sophomore Brennen Wyman drew one of the Sasquatch's 12 walks in the game with the bases loaded to start off the scoring in the frame.

Priest River High rising junior Broden Collins was a factor for the Sasquatch, tying the game 4-4 in the third inning with an RBI single to center field and hitting home a run via a fielder's choice to cap off the first inning.

On the mound, Blake Bogadi, another rising sophomore at Sandpoint High, was clutch down the stretch. The right-hander scattered two hits across two scoreless frames to help the Sasquatch secure the win. Sandpoint High rising junior Jacob Alexander got the nod on the rubber and struck four batters across four innings of work. In addition to their pitching, both Bogadi and Alexander singled in the contest, accounting for two of the Sasquatch's five total hits.

SANDPOINT — In a 10-inning thriller at Big Pine Field, Sandpoint High rising sophomores Blake Bogadi and Conner Brown both tallied 2-for-3 efforts at the plate as the Sasquatch fell to the River City Premier of Post Falls in the nightcap of Tuesday's doubleheader.

Sandpoint struck first when Sandpoint High rising sophomore Daniel Holman knocked home a run via a sacrifice fly in the first inning. In the third, Daniel's twin brother, John Holman, extended the Sasquatch lead to 2-0 after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

On the mound, Andrew Aexel was dealing. The Sandpoint High rising junior fired in seven quality frames, the first six of which were scoreless, and struck out two batters as he stranded several River City runners throughout the evening. The Premier eventually took a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Sasquatch were able to extend the evening thanks to Brennen Wyman base knock.

The Sandpoint High rising sophomore, who led the Sasquatch with a team-high two RBI, saved the day with an RBI single to center field on a 3-2 count. He would later record an RBI groundout in the bottom of the 10th as Sandpoint attempted to mount a comeback after River City tallied five runs in the top half of the inning.

During the eighth and ninth frames, Daniel Holman tossed two scoreless innings and struck out three batters to keep the Sasquatch in the contest.

In addition to Brown and Bogadi, Timberlake High rising junior Nathan Beardsall and Sandpoint High rising junior Jacob Alexander also registered two hits apiece in the contest for the Sasquatch, which outhit the Premier 14-10.
