LEGION BASEBALL: Lums fall in AA opener; Northern Lakes, Prairie to play in "A" loser-out game

NAMPA — Tyler Voorhees hit a bases-clearing double to put Coeur d’Alene ahead 3-0 in the first inning, but the two-time champion Pocatello Runnin’ Rebels grabbed the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning of a 4-3 win in the opening round of the state “AA” tournament on Thursday at Rodeo Park. 

Coeur d’Alene (26-19) had won six straight games and seven of its previous eight. The Lums will face the Twin Falls Cowboys in a loser-out game today. Twin Falls lost to the Nampa Chiefs 10-5 in the late game on Thursday. 

Pocatello, which lost 6-5 to Coeur d’Alene in the Western Invitational in Utah on June 26, advances to face the host Nampa Chiefs tonight. 

Colt Durham drove in two runs for Pocatello.

IDAHO FALLS — The Mountaineers brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh before falling to the Broncos in the opening round of the state “A” tournament at Bonneville High. 

Northern Lakes (36-8) will face Prairie (21-14-1) in a loser-out game today at Bonneville High. 

Eric Wylie had an RBI single to score Tadgh Ellwood to make it 4-1 in the sixth. Jace Taylor had a sacrifice fly to score Griffin Tamagni with two out in the seventh for Northern Lakes. 

Jason Williams had a two-run double to give Blackfoot a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

IDAHO FALLS — Grady Stinson and Timothy Howard had two hits each for the Cardinals, who fell to the Bees in the opening round of the state “A” tournament at the Tiger Athletic Complex. 

Prairie, which beat Northern Lakes in the Area A (district) tournament on Sunday, face the Mountaineers in a loser-out game today. 

Ian Anderson and Tanner Miller had two RBIs each for Idaho Falls (18-12-2).
