A 43-year-old man is accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's Kalispell home earlier this month and entering her bedroom while she slept with her partner.

Jesse Reed Coleman faces a felony count of burglary in Flathead County District Court following the alleged July 10 home invasion on Eighth Avenue West. Coleman, who was released from custody after posting a $200,000 bond, is expected to appear before Judge Amy Eddy on July 31 for his arraignment.

The couple alerted the authorities after awaking about 1:30 a.m. to find a strange man standing in their bedroom shining a flashlight or phone light on them, according to court documents. Surprised, the male half of the couple cursed loudly, which prompted Coleman to cry out in response and flee down the stairs, court documents said.

The couple followed, hollering as they went. The woman said she recognized the strange man as Coleman, an ex-boyfriend she had not spoken with for several years, as he departed, according to court documents.

The victims later showed investigators several places where Coleman allegedly tried to break into the house. Screens on several windows were damaged, including one leading to the bedroom of the woman's 12-year-old daughter, court documents said. They found a partial footprint on the door as if Coleman attempted to kick it in, and another footprint on the roof, according to court documents.

The couple suspected he got inside after finding an unlocked window near the main living area.

The pair told authorities the home invasion left them terrified, physically ill and unable to sleep, court documents said.

Burglary is punishable by up to 20 years in Montana State Prison and a $50,000 fine.
