The Schuler Performing Arts Center at North Idaho College was transformed Monday into a realm of enchantment for Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre’s "Princess Performance" of "Anastasia: The Musical."
Thanks to the generous sponsorship of businesswoman and philanthropist Rita Case, this special event offered complimentary tickets to ensure families that might not otherwise afford professional theater could experience the magic of live performance. The evening was a resounding success, filled with joy, wonder and heartfelt gratitude from the community, Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre officials reported.
The event, designed to create lasting memories, invited attendees to don prince and princess attire, turning the audience into a sea of tiaras, gowns and royal capes. Lines formed as early as 3 p.m. outside the venue, with families eagerly waiting to claim their tickets, available only on-site between 3 and 4:30 p.m. The requirement that each adult be accompanied by a child under 12 ensured the evening was a family affair, though all ages were welcome to join in the fairy-tale atmosphere.
For many, this performance was more than just a night at the theater; it was a rare opportunity to create cherished memories. One parent from the Boys and Girls Club wrote in a thank-you note to Case, “Thank you for your generosity. We have five children, and theater is usually out of the question unless we limit it to only one parent and one child. Tonight was an incredible memory.”
The "Princess Performance" was the realization of a long-held dream for Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre Executive Artistic Director Chuck Ethridge. For years, Ethridge envisioned an event that would open the doors of professional theater to the entire community, particularly those who face financial or other barriers.
“This was about giving everyone a chance to experience the transformative power of theatre,” Ethridge said.
Thanks to Case’s sponsorship, that vision came to life, creating a night where families could bond, children could dream and the community could come together in celebration.
