Shirley Ann (Mason) Binfield, 83, of Hayden, Idaho, passed away peacefully at Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene on July 18, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on March 28, 1942, in Tacoma, Wash., Shirley was welcomed into the world while her father was serving in Italy during World War II. After the war, her family returned to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where Shirley lived a life marked by dedication to her family, her career, and the joy of watching her family grow.

In the fall of 1956, Shirley met the love of her life, Paul Alan Binfield. Their romance blossomed over five years, uniting them in marriage March 18, 1961. Together they raised three beautiful children, Ron, Vicki and Kari, blessing Shirley with eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Shirley graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School as part of the Class of 1960. She lived out her life in Coeur d’Alene with her final 30 years in Hayden, Idaho, where Shirley and her husband of 64 years built their dream home.

Shirley built a lifelong career in banking, where she found both purpose and pride. She had a talent that brought her to Sho-Pan-Hi Federal Credit Union, where she worked her last 29 years, seven years as the company’s manager. Shirley retired in 2003. She was known there for her steadfast commitment and professionalism.

Shirley’s heart was always with her family. She found immense happiness gathering loved ones for celebrations and milestones. Her laughter — especially when enjoying one of her son, Ron’s, jokes — was a treasured sound that will echo in the memories of those who knew her best.

Travel was another enjoyment that enriched Shirley‘s life. With Paul by her side, she explored the Oregon coast often — a favorite destination — and ventured far beyond on memorable trips to Canada, by cruise ships to Alaska and Hawaii, and across Europe. Their travels took them through Germany, France — including the beaches of Normandy — England, Holland, Switzerland, Austria and more.

At home in Idaho or abroad on an adventure, Shirley had an eye for beauty. She enjoyed attending craft fairs and discovering unique treasures to decorate their home — a reflection of her warmth and creativity.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Lowell and Wilda Mason, and her brother, David Mason. Shirley was survived by her husband, Paul Alan Binfield; son Ronald Alan Binfield (spouse, Kris Binfield); daughter Vicki Jo Anderson (spouse, Stephen Anderson); daughter Kari Lynn Kettle (spouse, Paul Kettle); brother Kenneth Mason; sister Donna Spencer; and sister Susan Peoples. Her role as a grandmother brought her immeasurable joy as she cherished time spent with her grandchildren — Sarah Klumb, Brandie Binfield, Erica Mitchem, Brooke Anderson, Brittany Florance, Holly Anderson, Mourney Weisz and Mayson Bradford — and delighted in watching her great-grandchildren grow: Kendall and Ella Mitchem, Logan and Lincoln Gunion, Caden Florance, Zaeden Binfield, Zariah and Zyler Hibner.

A woman of deep loyalty and enduring love for those closest to her, Shirley leaves behind a legacy rooted in family bonds and heartfelt connection. May Shirley Ann Binfield‘s memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home — Hayden Chapel, 373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden, Idaho. A graveside and reception will follow the service. Donations to Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene are welcome (www.hospiceofnorthidaho.org).
