Mauri 'Sue' Westmoreland-Meyer, 75
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 8 months, 2 weeks AGO
Mauri Sue Westmoreland-Meyer (Sue), 75 years old, resident of Hayden Lake, Idaho, for over 46 years, passed away suddenly at Kootenai Health on July 13, 2025, surrounded by her entire family. Sue was born April 26, 1950, in Cleburne, Texas, to Jerry Allen and Mildred Novice Westmoreland (Shook). She was the youngest of four siblings, Marian, Benny and Jerry, who all preceded her in death.
She graduated from Buena Park High School in 1968 and shortly after married Marty Meyer in Manhattan Beach, Calif.
Sue was the stylish one, who always seemed to set the current style before it was “in.” Whether it be owning Birkenstocks before they were a hit or making her friends and family unique jewelry. Her gifts were something that will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to receive them. Sue was an artist at heart who enjoyed drawing, painting, sculpting, photography and playing music. When she wasn’t creating art herself, she could be found enjoying the arts by listening to music by her favorite musicians, including Jackson Browne and Bob Dylan.
She was an avid volunteer at North Idaho Aids Coalition and Kootenai Health up until her health started to decline.
Sue loved her family; one of her greatest joys was being a grandmother to her five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
She is survived by her ex-husband, but still very close friend, Marty Meyer; son Chris Meyer; daughter Ashley Spencer (Andy); son Noah Meyer; grandchildren Lindsey Meyer, Brighton Spencer, Canyon Spencer, Savannah Spencer, Sawyer Spencer; and great-grandson Ares Mahoney.
Celebration of life will be held at Higgens Point on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Companions Animal Shelter www.companionsanimalcenter.org in her name.
