SANDPOINT — County commissioners approved a series of grants and actions items at Tuesday’s business meeting, authorizing the go-ahead for departments like Road and Bridge, Emergency Management and Airports to move forward with a number of projects.
Road and Bridge was approved to accept a quote of $59,200 to replace the metal roof fascia and drip edge on the department’s District 1 shop. The building’s current roof is part of the building’s original structure, which was built in 1985. Department director Jason Topp noted that the original roof was nailed to the building as opposed to being screwed down.
According to a memorandum to the board, sections of the roof have blown off in windstorms over the years, which were then screwed back down. The memo also noted several leaks in the roof.
Airports were also approved to accept two grants for different airport improvement initiatives in the Sandpoint and Priest River airports.
The first grant approved is from the Leading Idaho Initiative grant from the Idaho Transportation Department and will come in the amount of $50,000. The funds be used for insulation and heat for an existing, county-owned hangar that will be used as a future snow removal equipment storage building. The funds will come from a supplemental funding grant and requires no county match.
The second grant, also from the Leading Idaho Initiative, was approved in the amount of $263,000 for significant pavement maintenance to the Priest River Airport runway, taxiway and apron.
The project includes crack sealing, seal coating and remarking the runway, taxiway, aprons and tie-down areas. The grant does not require a county match.
Emergency Management was approved for a grant extension of a 2023 all hazard mitigation grant that equaled $43,201. The extension was approved through Dec. 1, 2025, to allow for the Idaho Office of Emergency Management to complete its review of the newly updated Bonner County all-hazard mitigation plan.
