One of the biggest weekends of the summer is just around the corner.

The Downtown Coeur d’Alene Street Fair, Art on the Green and Taste of Coeur d’Alene will take over streets, parks and lawns starting Friday.

The 33rd annual Street Fair, presented by the Coeur d'Alene Downtown Association, will feature more than 250 vendors spanning seven blocks of Sherman Avenue from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Sherman will be closed from the intersection of Lakeside Avenue and Northwest Boulevard to Seventh Street beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday and will remain in effect until 6:30 p.m. Sunday. 

Two new businesses for attendees to check out are Lantern Donuts and J. Rome Gallery, Coeur d'Alene Downtown Association marketing coordinator Mackenzie Macomber said Tuesday.

“J. Rome Gallery is really cool," Macomber said. "She is a local artist that opened her shop up over the summer and her pieces are really unique and vibrant."

Guests will find Rome painting in her storefront at various times during the fair. 

Lantern Donuts will also make its Street Fair debut this weekend.

“They’re going to have doughnuts that are gourmet and curated that have amazing flavors and offer a variety of options, too,” Macomber said. "They definitely have some awesome stuff they'll be showcasing at Street Fair for the very first time."

Face painting, henna tattoos, caricature drawings, street food, crafts and more will also be found among the Street Fair booths.

A free shuttle bus will be available to transport attendees to the North Idaho College Campus to enjoy another piece of the festive puzzle: The 57th annual Art on the Green. 

Orchestrated by volunteers and presented by the Citizens’ Council for the Arts, Art on the Green will again bring together artists, musicians and performers for three days of free entertainment on two stages, handcrafted works of art for purchase, a beer garden for those 21 and older, a food court, an outdoor Juried Art Show and a Children’s Art Garden for children of all ages.

On the southeast side of campus, Gizmo-Cd'A will invite the public to be part of a powerful collaborative sculpture: The Vessel of Intention — a gathering point for reflection, hope and action through art. A sculpture created by artists Dave “Gonzo” Gonzalez, Kathryn Larson and Rebecca Hurlen Patano combines forged steel, copper, concrete, paper, glass chimes and community voices.

Each material is symbolic: Steel represents the strength to uphold the community’s intentions; copper reflects the conductive energy needed to spread those intentions; concrete speaks to the durability of a shared vision; glass chimes evoke how fragile hopes, when united, can ripple into powerful waves; and paper becomes the breath and origin of intention.

"Join neighbors and visitors in co-creating something bold, beautiful and hopeful," Gizmo shared in a news release. "Visitors are invited to write down a personal vision for the future and place it onto the sculpture."

Art on the Green will be open from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. with music until 8 p.m. both nights. The Art on the Green/Street Fair shuttle will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Jump on at Third Street and Sherman or in front of the NIC Student Union Building. Buses will arrive every 30 minutes.

Sandwiched between the fair and the arts festival will be the Panhandle Kiwanis Taste of Coeur d'Alene, featuring 25 local food booths, 140 local arts and craft vendors, kids activities, live entertainment and a beer garden with offerings from local brewers. 

Music through the weekend will include classic country and swing by Courtney & Co.; classic rock by Smoke the Band; rock, pop and blues by Ron Greene; classic rock by ManeyAxe; folk, rock and reggae by Current Flow; classic rock and blues by Kosta la Vista; blues, country and rock by Porter Combs; indie rock by James Berkley; acoustic rock by the Kindreds; classic and modern rock by Laketown Sound; and many more. Taste of Coeur d'Alene serves as a fundraiser for Panhandle Kiwanis, a civic organization that conducts service projects throughout the community. The food festival will be open 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
