Taylor Lennox of Mission West Community Development Partners updated the Ronan City Council on the Ronan Pilot Tourism Grant during the meeting July 23.
The Ronan walkability plan was his focus. He said the plans will include Main Street, Third Avenue, and halfway down into the city park, and will include amenities such as wayfinding signs and bike paths. The walkability plan will give Mission West more information to pursue grant opportunities.
Lennox showed off “a cool new pavement sticker” he hoped to put in front of Ronan City Hall. He also discussed a new public input survey which is available online at ronantourismgrant.com/comment-map/.
Jan Tusick, the executive director of Mission West, sent word that an adaptive use and reuse grant from the Department of Commerce for Spring Creek Kitchen will help purchase new kitchen equipment for the project.
Council members also unanimously approved payments to Morrison-Maierle of $31,035 and $15,820 for Ronan’s water project.
The council also agreed to offer “a vintage road grader” for sale. According to Dan Miller of the Public Works Department, the grader is 50 years old, and “the city bought it new.”
Most of the remainder of the meeting was focused on approving open container permits and street closures for various events including the Ronan Chamber of Commerce’s Crab Fest, held July 25; a Ranch Rodeo, also July 25; Pioneer Days at the Lake County Fairgrounds, Aug. 1-3; the Pioneer Days Parade on Main Street, Aug. 3; corn hole games and a street dance, Aug. 1 and 2 on Main Street in front of the 325 Bar; and St. Luke Healthcare for their annual fundraiser at the Ronan Community Center on Sept. 19.
The next council meeting will be Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. at Ronan City Hall.
