LEGION BASEBALL: Lums take two from River City Thunder

COEUR d’ALENE — Dylan Cook went 3 for 3 with two doubles and a two-run homer which ended the second game on the 10-run rule, as the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen class “AA” American Legion baseball team swept the River City Thunder Premier 4-2 and 14-4 on Saturday at Thorco Field. 

Cook’s blast capped a six-run fifth inning for Coeur d’Alene (4-4). 

Mark Holecek hit a three-run double in a three-run third for the Lums. Jack Pierce went 3 for 3 with four RBIs, including a two-run single in the third. 

Bo Johnson hit a two-run single in the third inning for River City, a team with players mostly from Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene.  

In the first game, Tyler Voorhees doubled and scored in a two-run third for Coeur d’Alene, and Jack Pierce singled in a run in a two-run fifth. 

In the sixth, with River City runners at second and third, second baseman Voorhees ranged to his left to snare a soft liner and save two runs. 

Nolan Wohl homered to lead off the seventh for River City. After a hit by pitch, Andy Everson struck out the next batter, and Lums catcher Tanner Franklin threw down to first to pick the runner off there for a double play. The next batter struck out to end the game. 

The teams are scheduled to meet again today in a single game at noon at Thorco Field.

POST FALLS — Isaiah Kearney had a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth inning and finished with three RBIs in the first game for the Cardinals against the Blue Devils at Post Falls High. 

The first game counted in the North Idaho League standings.

Andrew Olson had two hits and two runs scored and Gavin Wienker struck out six in the first game for Prairie, which held Moscow to one hit, a fourth-inning double by Oliver Castillo. 

In the nonleague nightcap, James Morast struck out six in five innings, allowing only a single to Brock Fealy leading off the game as the Cardinals earned the sweep. 

Prairie (5-2, 2-0 NIL) will face Coeur d’Alene on Wednesday at Thorco Field at 6 p.m.
