COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: Roos a part of NJCAA World Series title team
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 6 months, 3 weeks AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | June 4, 2025 1:00 AM
Colin Roos, Salt Lake CC Baseball
A 2023 graduate of Sandpoint High, Colin was a part of the Bruins' NJCAA Division I National Championship run, which ended with the school's first ever JUCO baseball title this past Saturday, May 31, in Grand Junction, Colo. Salt Lake CC, which finished the year with a 48-11 record, defeated Florida Southwestern State of Fort Myers, Fla. (16-2), Shelton State Community College of Tuscaloosa, Ala. (15-13), Florence-Darlington Technical College of Florence, S.C. (17-16), Lakeland Community College of Kirtland, Ohio (12-2), which avenged a second round loss earlier in the tournament, and top-seeded Walters State College of Morristown, Tenn. (9-6) in the championship game. The Bruins were seeded eighth overall and became the lowest-seeded team to win the JUCO World Series in the seeding era. Because there are currently 562 NJCAA baseball teams, the JUCO World Series is considered to be one of the hardest titles to win in all of college sports. As for Roos himself, the 6-foot 6-inch right-handed pitcher and redshirt freshman made five appearances during the regular season, tallying six strikeouts over six innings pitched.
Connor Alexander, Lewis-Clark State College Track & Field
A 2022 graduate of Bonners Ferry High, Connor was named to the President's List for the 2025 spring semester. To achieve this honor at Lewis-Clark State College students must have a 3.75 grade point average or higher for the semester and take at least 12 graded credits in 100 level classes or above.
