SANDPOINT — Tuesday’s business meeting looked different this week, with a total meeting time of 33 minutes as the agenda included only three presentations from county entities.

Fiscal year 2025 claims batch No. 34, totaling $427,736.39 was first approved by commissioners Asia Williams and Brian Domke. Commissioner Ron Korn was absent from Tuesday’s meeting due to his attendance at the Idaho Commissioners and Clerks Conference.

High ticket items of the claims batch included a fairground bleacher purchase of $97,694, approximately $70,000 for the BonFire program and $64,532 for dust abatement from Road and Bridge.

Airports director Dave Schuck gained approval for Sandpoint Airport to enter into a lease agreement on Lot 33, which requires the lessee to build a hangar on the lot while following county specifications.

The approved agreement is for a 30-year term, with a 20-year renewal option. At the end of the lease term, the lot will be returned to the county.

Schuck noted during the business meeting that a special airport advisory board meeting will take place July 18 to consider different lot term lengths, in an effort to base terms off current market value and demand. It is undetermined yet if lease terms will be shortened.

In another request for approval, Schuck was given the green light to award Selland Construction Inc. the bid on a $313,922 project. The project will include tree removal and trimming around Sandpoint Airport and is expected to start in September.

Selland Construction is one of five companies that submitted a bid for the project, where two companies were unresponsive throughout the selection process.

Additionally, Bonner County Deputy Prosecutor Bill Wilson received approval on his request for a memorandum of understanding between Bonner County, Bonner General Health and Kaniksu Community Health. The MOU allows Kaniksu staff to utilize BGH’s facility and resources to conduct forensic interviews when necessary. Bonner County’s role in the agreement will be to coordinate necessary activities through LilyBrooke Family Justice Center — a victim advocacy center.

According to Wilson, the agreement comes at no cost to the county. Kaniksu will also be held accountable for obtaining liability insurance for facilitating interviews when necessary.
