POST FALLS — It was a flurry of flamingo-filled fundraising in May for the Post Falls Kiwanis Club.

People made donations from $20 for 12 flamingos, $30 for 24 flamingos and $50 for 36 flamingos to “migrate” the pink lawn ornaments along with a sign with contact information and the message, “You’ve been flocked by Post Falls Kiwanis.”

The Kiwanians and their helpers raised about $800 this year and decorated about two lawns a day throughout the month of May.

“We were very happy. I think it was actually one of the biggest years here,” said RaeAnne Capaul of the Kiwanis Club. “It was a great year. I think almost every day that we did it was busy.”

The fundraiser has been going on for more than a decade. Key Club students both help with the fundraiser one day a week and are recipients of the scholarships.

“They also help us pick up garbage on the highway,” Capaul said. “We try to keep them very involved.”

A golf tournament in September helps round out funding for the scholarships, hats and coats for elementary school children during the winter and donations for the 3rd Avenue Marketplace.
