Shoemake powers Mariners past Twins

Landon Shoemake hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to power the Mission Valley Mariners past the Glacier Twins 6-4 to complete the sweep of American Legion baseball doubleheader on Sunday.  

Shoemake homered in the fifth inning of game one, an 8-4 win. 

In the second game, Holden Emerson reached base three times for the Mariners (6-6), including a double as he tied with Paxson DuMont with a team-leading two hits. Shoemake’s homerun in the third tied the game at three before five-straight walks in the fourth inning plated two runs to take the lead. 

In game one, Emerson led the offensive charge going 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, but it was the four-run fifth inning that put the game out of reach for the Twins (0-4). DuMont and Aiden Gfroerer reached base on back-to-back singles before an error allowed Gfoerer to score. 

Brayson DuMont hit a sacrifice fly and Cole Wadsworth singled before Shoemake laced a line drive over the right field wall, extending the lead 8-3. Trenton DeRosa led the Twins with two hits and drove in a run. Reed Boyer and Derek Juntunen added the other RBIs.
