On Saturday, multiple free events will take place across Idaho to promote the outdoor sport, with loaner rods and reels available for newbie anglers. Additionally, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game offers online resources that teaches you the basics of fishing.
In North Idaho, Rathdrum City Park is hosting a fishing derby for kids from 9 to 11 a.m. Also, Farragut State Park and Priest Lake State Park are participating in a rod loaner program for eager fishers without equipment.
According to IDFG, Idaho is home to 26,000 miles of streams and rivers, with over 3,000 natural lakes. Within those waters live 42 fish species, from sturgeon to small mouth bass.
IDFG officials remind those who plan to fish that all fishing rules remain in effect.
“All other fishing rules and regulations including creel limits, opening dates and tackle restrictions remain in effect. Always check the seasons and rules for the water where you plan to go fishing.”
