COEUR d’ALENE — The fruits of the Coeur54 golf tournament resulted in more than just calls of “fore” across three area golf courses.

Golfers helped local nonprofits continue their work for the sixth year. Organizer Dustin Ainsworth said the competition-fueled fundraiser raised $48,000, smashing their record.

The money was split between Village of Hope, Safe Start, Growing the STEM and Idaho Drug Free Youth.

“Not only do we raise money for these organizations we are ambassadors to raise awareness," Ainsworth said.

Coeur d’Alene Public Golf Course, Avondale Golf Club in Hayden Lake and Hayden Lake Country Club hosted the 16 golfers June 3 as they played their way across 54 holes in about hours.

“This is a big deal to us. All of our players have individually been impacted by these organizations one way or another,” he added.

The organizations were surprised by the dollar amount during the check presentation Monday at Coeur d’Alene Public Golf Course.

Safe Start plans to use its $12,000 for family education about the importance of safe infant sleep and car seat safety to eliminate preventable injury and death of children.

At the Village of Hope, Executive Director Angela Gifford said the funds will impact lives.

“Most of the money will go toward prevention to break cycles of trauma,” Gifford said.

In its six years, Coeur54 has raised close to $200,000.
