Elizabeth 'Betty' Francis Peters, 85
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 10 months, 1 week AGO
Betty Peters passed peacefully May 25, 2025.
Born on Sept. 29, 1939, to Harris and Minnie Jones in Brainerd, Minn., Betty was the eighth of nine. Some of her fondest memories were going to relatives’ farms, fishing, waterskiing and playing the organ.
At 19, Betty went to nursing school in Illinois, then moved to St. Paul, Minn., where she met Marshall “Pete” Peters. They married April 18, 1964, and settled in Wisconsin, where they adopted sons Paul, in 1966, and Jon, in 1969.
In 1971, the family moved to Kansas, and in 1976, they found a home in North Idaho. Pete and Betty fell in love with the Northwest, taking their sons and friends on camping trips every summer, hunting and fishing. They were always eager to find a new campsite or show an old favorite to family and friends.
Betty worked as a home care nurse throughout most of her career, a role she held dear. In later years, she worked for the Kootenai County Treasurer. After retiring in 2003, Betty worked part-time for the Parks Department and volunteered with the Hospice Thrift Store, VFW and Newby-ginnings, among others.
She cherished relationships with coworkers and neighbors and welcomed her children’s and grandchildren’s friends and partners as family.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, Minnie and Harris Jones, husband Marshall Peters, son Paul Peters, sisters Helen Schroepfer, Audrey Kelley and Joyce Discher, and brothers Merle, Boyd and Thomas Jones. She is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Rasch and Harriet Mayfield, son Jon Peters, grandchildren Travis Schierman, Emily Peters and Holly Peters, and four great-granddaughters.
A memorial service will be held at Legends Park Assisted Living (1820 Legends Parkway, Cd'A), where she lived the past seven years, Saturday, June 21, at 2 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Father Len MacMillan. Her ashes will be interred in the Veterans Memorial Wall at Evergreen.
