High Wheelers KO Riders Tuesday

MARYSVILLE, Calif. — The Glacier Range Riders made a sterling comeback Tuesday night, only to drop another Pioneer League game via the Knockout Round, 7-6 to the Yuba-Sutter High Wheelers.\
Cuba Bess, who hit an RBI double in a three-run first inning and added an RBI single in the fourth, belted one home run in the KO Round. Kingston Liniak, who homered in the seventh inning, hit for Glacier but got zero. The Range Riders (8-11) took their seventh loss in eight games in June, two of them via knockout.
Down 6-2 after four innings, the Range Riders scored twice in the eighth and ninth innings, and got five scoreless frames from relievers Davis Pratt, Cam Liss, Jacob Hasty and Luke Cooper.
Liniak hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning. It was his fifth this season and 33rd with the Range Riders, two off the team record of 35 by Christian Kirtley.
Angel Mendoza hit an RBI single and Clarkson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the eighth to tie the game up.
Hasty, who retired all four batters he faced, pitched a perfect eighth and Cooper worked around a walk in a scoreless ninth. The Range Riders then fell to 1-2 in knockout games.
TJ Clarkson homered in the first inning, a solo shot to put Glacier up 1-0. Liniak had three hits. Xavier Casserilla doubled and scored twice.
The six-game series between last year’s PBL Championship teams continues Wednesday.
