Stumptown Art Studio, in downtown Whitefish, is holding a suite of summer programs.

Enrollment is open for its camps, classes and workshops that begin in mid-June and run through August. Classes are offered for children ages 3 and older.

Each week features a new art camp with classes scheduled Monday through Thursday for two hours a day. Youth classes include themes like “Out of this World Space Camp,” “Montana’s Flora and Fauna” and “Pet Portraits.”

A highlighted focus this summer of Stumptown Art Studio’s programming is bringing more art opportunities to tweens and teens. Offerings like “Landscape Painting for Tweens,” ages 10-12, create a unique opportunity for students to learn the essentials of landscape painting. Learning everything from composition to mixing color, campers will utilize our local views at places like City Beach and area parks to capture inspiration for their works of art.

Besides 2D classes, the Clay Studio also has a robust line-up of workshops that speak to all skill levels. New teen classes, ages 12-18, create an opportunity for students to learn techniques and good studio practices.

Classes like “Sculpting on Thrown Cups” will have students alter a pre-thrown form and create a unique vessel using hand-building techniques. For more refined clay lessons, the “Clay Skills Workshops” for ages 16 plus focus on specific subjects such as Wheelwork and Centering, Hand building and Coil Pots, and Glazing Sessions.

Stumptown Art Studio is located at 145 Central Avenue in downtown Whitefish and is a nonprofit community art studio with a focus on arts education and opportunities for all ages and abilities. For a full listing of youth and adult art classes visit StumptownArtStudio.org or call 406-862-5929.
