LEWISTON — Griffin Tamagni went 5 for 6 with seven RBIs on the day as the Northern Lakes Mountaineers swept the Lewis-Clark Cubs 10-1 and 14-4 in class A North Idaho League play Thursday at Harris Field.
Tamagni went 2 for 3 with four RBIs for Northern Lakes (7-0, 4-0 NIL) in the first game, which counted in the league standings. Three runs scored on his second-inning single, part of a five-run frame for the Mountaineers.
“Any time you get production out of the 9-hole, it’s going to lead to a lot of runs, because you’re flipping your lineup over,” Northern Lakes coach Brice Johnson said.
Jace Taylor added a two-run double in the seventh inning of the first game for Northern Lakes.
“We got off to a hot start,” Johnson said. “We have a lot of talent offensively, and we’re starting to figure out where the pieces go.”
Jace Cooksey had two hits, both doubles, and drove in four runs in the nonleague second game for Northern Lakes, and Eric Wylie went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
The games were moved up on Thursday to allow for two games in the class AA Dwight Church Memorial Tournament to be played later that day on that field.
Northern Lakes opted for the earlier start so it could still play at the home yard of the NAIA Lewis-Clark State Warriors.
“It’s the coolest venue any of our high school kids will play in,” Johnson said.
Northern Lakes will play host to Lewis-Clark in a doubleheader Saturday at John Shaffer Field in Spirit Lake.
