The North travel softball team to host youth camp

SANDPOINT — The North, a travel softball team based in Sandpoint, will be hosting a youth camp Friday, June 20 at Sandpoint Middle School's Colt Field.
There will be two sessions, one from 9 a.m. to noon for athletes ranging from 8 to 12 years old, and one from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. for athletes ranging from 13 to 18 years old. There is a limit of 25 athletes per time slot, and as of Wednesday, there were just 18 slots remaining in total. An additional session from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. may be added based on interest.
During the camp, athletes will focus on fielding during the first hour, hitting the second hour, and will have a choice between pitching, catching, outfield or infield for the third hour. The clinic will be run by six different former athletes and coaches, including Logan Conro, Ingrid Price, Leah Platt, Alisha Thompson, John Wilson and Jared Koskela. The cost to register is $30. Conro ... formerly Free, was a 2003 graduate of Sandpoint High and a four-year starter at NCAA Division I Georgia Southern University. While an Eagle, she was a two-time All-Southern Conference Second Team selection, a three-time Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week and was part of the All-Southern Conference Tournament team in 2006. During the 2004-2006 seasons she struck out 374 batters across 391.2 innings pitched and held a career 2.38 ERA.
Price ... was a part of the 2006 Oregon State University softball team that reached the College World Series and was inducted into the OSU Hall of Fame in 2023. She was also on the 2005 OSU team that won the PAC-10 Championship.
Platt ... formerly Free, was a 1997 graduate of Sandpoint High and is currently the head softball coach at Sandpoint High. She was a two-year starter at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Ore.
Thompson ... was a two-year starter at Spokane Community College and is active in the Sandpoint softball community.
Wilson ... is the current head coach of The North 14U travel softball team and is USA Softball certified, SafeSport certified and Level 3 ACE certified.
Koskela ... was a 2000 graduate of Thompson Falls High and a four-year starter for the Montana Tech University football team, where he was the team defensive captain and led the Orediggers in tackles his junior and senior year as a linebacker. He's coached athletes to state championship titles (football in 2021), state tournament appearances, and numerous accolades as a 13-year head coach of the Thompson Falls High football team and now an 8-year head coach of the Thompson Falls-Noxon co-op softball team.
