Joe B. Hurst, 90, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2025, in Sandpoint, Idaho. Private family services have been held.
Joe was born on June 22, 1934, in El Centro, Calif. He grew up and attended schools in San Diego County, graduating from Helix High School in 1953.
Joe married Lois Woods on January 27, 1963, in Los Angeles. He worked as an administrator for the San Joaquin Community Hospital until 1979, when the family moved to Sandpoint. Joe and Lois operated the Commercial Laundry on Superior Street. He operated Big Joe’s Restaurant from 1983 to 1992.
Joe’s love of cooking began with his mom and grew during his trips to Europe, particularly in France. He enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, and traveling.
He is survived by two sons, Joe Hurst (Christine Black) of Claremont, Calif., and Jeff (Hollie) Hurst of Sandpoint; four grandchildren, Michael and Delaney Black, and Hannah and Will Hurst; and one brother, James Hurst.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois Hurst and brother Jerry Hurst.
