Ian Thomas Winter, 38, born Dec. 31, 1986, left us too soon on May 18, 2025.

Ian was born in Torrance, California, and grew up in the South Bay, where he spent much of his time surrounded by close friends and family. He had a deep love for the outdoors — fishing whenever he could, exploring nature, and capturing its beauty through photography. Ian brought joy and laughter wherever he went and truly came alive when he was outside, camera in hand, making memories with those he cared about.

His passion for travel eventually took him overseas to Europe, where he especially fell in love with England. What began as a trip turned into a year-long stay. He made lifelong friends in pubs across the country, immersing himself in the local culture and enjoying the simple joy of discovering new places.

In July 2020, Ian visited family in Montana and instantly knew he had found his true home.

While living in Montana, Ian explored more, fished more, and adventured more than most locals could dream. He had a boundless zest for life and a charisma that made him instantly likable. Ian could walk into a room full of strangers and leave with a dozen new friends. He also loved music and played guitar, sharing that passion with his family. He cared deeply for those close to him and formed genuine, lasting bonds with everyone he held dear.

A highly skilled and respected carpentry superintendent, Ian's craftsmanship was always in demand. His most recent project was building a Columbia Sportswear Outlet in upstate New York.

Ian's adventurous spirit, kind heart, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life left a lasting impression. Your friends and family love you, Ian. You will be forever missed.

A celebration of his life will be held on July 12, from 6 to 12 a.m., at Happy's Inn, 72576 U.S. Highway 2, Libby, MT 59923.
