The Whitefish Community Library is kicking off a summer of reading and activities with the theme Relax and Unwind.
The summer reading challenge begins on Monday, June 16 and ends August 16. Reading logs are available at the library or on its website. Readers of all ages can win prizes and help raise funds for Miracle League.
Miracle League is a free summer baseball program for children and adults with a special need or disability. Last year readers earned $1,954 for the Special Olympics. The funds were generously sponsored by Whitefish Credit Union.
Each Wednesday at 11 a.m. the library hosts Books with Babies, a program of books, movement, play and song to engage babies up to 18 months old. Each Friday at 11 a.m., Story Circle with Miss Gina, an early literacy class for ages 2-4 with stories, stations and play, is scheduled.
The 2025 season will also include nine special events on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.
For the first event on June 19, wild raptors will come to the library lawn. Wild Wings volunteers will give the public the chance to see rehabilitated raptors up close.
On June 26, Alpine Theatre Project has theatre workshops. Bethany Barnes Bethany, a contestant in the 2024 Miss Montana pageant and a published author of a children’s book, will be sharing her book and her talent on July 10.
Stories with Jody, with an interactive art activity, for ages 4-10 will be held on July 17.
Tai Chi for kids with Karen Nesbitt is a fun and gentle movement class that helps children improve balance, focus, and body awareness through slow, flowing exercises. The class is for ages 8-12 and will be held on July 24.
Intermountain Therapy Animals gives the public a chance to meet dogs and facilitators who visit the library as Reading Assistance Dogs. All ages are welcome to attend this event on July 31.
North Valley Music School hosts a sing-along on the library’s east lawn Aug. 7 and on Aug. 14, an art project with Stumptown Art Studio for ages 4-10 is scheduled.
The end of summer reading celebration and ice-cream party is Aug. 15 from 2 – 3 p.m.
