CRANBROOK, B.C. — The 2013/14' Albion SC Sandpoint boys soccer team, playing up an age bracket, took home bronze after placing third in a nine-team U13 division of the Kootenay Rovers Classic held June 13 through 15 at Moir Centennial Athletic Park.

After falling to the Kootenay Rovers by a score of 5-2 in their first match, a match in which Felix Carlson scored both goals, the boys finished the tournament out with two wins and a tie to clinch the bronze medal. Albion tied the Nelson Selects, 4-4, and then defeated Elk Valley by a 6-0 margin to finish out group play.

"...Felix stepped up, notching a hat trick in the most intense tournament game," coach Jennings Waterhouse said. "Considering the small-sized goals and physicality, Felix’s seven goals over the weekend is a testament to our attention to finishing technique.”

In the bronze-medal game Sunday afternoon, Albion, despite being dominant in terms of time of possession, found themselves tied 1-1 at the end of regulation with a team from Creston, British Columbia. In a sudden death shootout, Kit Gaddess stroked the game winner off the underside of the crossbar and Albion rushed the field in celebration.

“Kit is a really special, composed player who makes his teammates better," coach Waterhouse said. "He can play all positions and is a trusted teammate.”

Coach Waterhouse noted that goalkeeper Griffin Asquith, who scored a couple of goals of his own, was instrumental in helping the team to the bronze medal, that Aaron Groeke, Alex Hartman and Greyson Reid played fantastic all weekend, and that the team's defense was anchored by Sam Satleen, Kit Gaddess and Keldon Ridley, with newcomers Liam Corbett and Porter Reed providing much needed reinforcements.

"I also want to congratulate Harper Fields, who played spectacularly at keeper in his debut with Albion SC," coach Waterhouse said. "Raleigh Brown also played a fantastic role at center forward, tallying his first hat trick with three gorgeous goals."
