OAKLAND, Calif. — Down 6-1 after three innings, the Glacier Range Riders rallied before coming up empty in their final two chances of a 6-5 Pioneer League loss to Oakland Wednesday.

It was the second straight 6-5 loss to the Ballers (18-8) for the Range Riders (10-16), who fell to 3-12 in June.  Davis Drewek and Lou Helmig hit two-run doubles while Oakland put up three runs in the first and third innings.

Glacier’s comeback started with a solo home run from Gabe Howell in the sixth inning, his second this season and 33rd as a Range Rider. The rally continued in the seventh with three runs: TJ Clarkson and Xavier Casserilla hit RBI doubles and Casserilla came around on Kingston Liniak’s infield single and error on the Oakland shortstop.

Down 6-5, the Range Riders got just one base runner over the final two innings, when Angel Mendoza was hit by a pitch in the eighth. Oakland reliever Carson Lambert struck out two in that inning and Connor Sullivan fanned two in the ninth to record his seventh save.

Eldridge Armstrong III, Jacob Hasty and Luke Cooper combined for four innings of scoreless relief, giving Glacier time to rally. Clarkson scored twice from his leadoff spot.

The teams continued their six-game set Thursday evening.
